ImageThis quick start guide takes you through using LITHIUM|Web to install a license key for your LITHIUM|Core deployment and configuring a site and device to be monitored. This document assumes you have performed all steps in the LITHIUM|Core Install Guide for your host platform and the Initial Configuration guide.

After adding at least one site you can proceed to adding a monitored device to LITHIUM|Core. This document assumes you have completed the installation and initial configuration of your LITHIUM|Core deployment.

This step concludes the Quick Start guides. Further document regarding the operation and maintenance of LITHIUM|Core, LITHIUM|Web and LITHIUM|Console can be found in their respective documentation sections.

Open LITHIUM|Web Start Page

In your web browser, open the URL for your installation of LITHIUM|Web, or click on the 'Home' link in the top Navigation Menu

http://<lithium server>/lithium

You may be prompted for authentication; the authentication credentials supplied for the Admin Username and Password during the Initial Configuration section can be used here.

Once authenticated the start page for LITHIUM|Web will be shown

Add New Monitored Device

LITHIUM|Core arranges monitored devices into a hierarchy of Customer, Site and Device. Now that you have a Customer (setup during the Initial Configuration stage) and a Site (see previous step) added, you can add a monitored device to your LITHIUM|Core deployment.

Click on the Site you added in the previous step by clicking on the site name in the left-hand-side Navigation Menu to display the device list. Alternatively, you can browse through the list of sites by clicking on the 'Sites' link in either the top or left-hand-side Navigation Menu. The device list page will be displayed as shown below.

Enter the required device information fields. Below is an explanation of the critical fields

Device Name

A short string (typically the hostname) that uniquely identifies the site. (E.g border-rtr-12)

Device Description

A longer string that describes the device. (E.g Border Router 12 - Cisco 3640)

Management IP

This is the IP address that will be polled for device monitoring data (SNMP/ICMP/etc)

SNMP Community

The SNMP Community that device is configured to provide SNMP read-only access to.

Vendor Module (Device Module)

The LITHIUM|Core Device Module that is to be loaded to perform the monitoring of this device. The module used will depend on the type of license entitlements your LITHIUM|Core deployment uses and the type of device.

LITHIUM|Core Free Edition comes with licenses for the 'snmpbasic' module for basic SNMP monitoring.

LITHIUM|Core Professional and Enterprise Editions come with licenses for the 'snmpadv' module for Advanced SNMP monitoring.

Device Profile

Optional configuration parameters for the Device Module. This can be left blank

Refresh Interval

The interval between device polls in seconds. By default this is set to 300 seconds (five minutes).  Values less than 10 seconds are NOT recommended.

Click on 'Submit' to add the device. After the device is added, the confirmation form will be displayed as shown below.

Browse to the Device by clicking on the site's name in the left-hand-side Navigation Menu and then clicking on the newly added device in the site's device list. Alternatively, click on 'Sites' in either the top or left-hand-side Navigation Menu to browse to the device through the site list.

After clicking on the newly added Device in the site's Device List, the device At-a-Glance page will be displayed as shown below. This page shows critical device telemetry and statistics such as CPU usage, availability, network utilisation, etc.

A newly added device will show no information until the first refresh period. An example of a blank at-a-glance page for a newly added device is shown below.
