Symptoms

1. PostgreSQL will not start (complains about socket in use)

Versions Apple Remote Desktop prior to ARD3 install a bundled version of PostgreSQL which is by default set to listen to the same TCP socket that the installation of PostgreSQL that comes with Lithium Core will listen on. This is a common conflict and there are well-documented solutions.

The most common and non-limiting solution is to change the port the ARD installation of PostgreSQL listens on. This does NOT limit the functionality of ARD or Lithium Core.

The instructions for this solution can be found here (external site):

2. The installer fails with a "Try Again" message

This installer error is caused by one of the install scripts failing to run. During the install process, a series of scripts run to initialise Lithium Core's database, web files and other critical components.

The most common cause of this error is the failure of the PostgreSQL database to initialize during the install process. This initialization only happens for a fresh install of Lithium Core. If you have had Lithium installed previously, there may be some residual processes and/or shared memory allocations which are causing this problem

To attempt to rectify this issue, reboot the server where Core is being installed and re-try the installation process. Additionally, if this is a fresh new (re-)installation of Lithium Core, completely remove the "Lithium" folder on the System Drive before performing the reboot.
