Metric Set Drawer

The Metric Set Drawer contains all of the metric sets that will be graphed. At the bottom of the drawer there are two buttons: +, -. To add a metric set, click the + button, and the metric set dialogue window is displayed.

Metric Set Window

Each metric set contains three Items. A Graph Set Description, Metric list, and Device list. The  graph set description is the name that will appear in the Metric Set drawer, and in each graph header. The Metric list is a list of the individual entities you wish to have graphed. There is no limit on the number of Metrics that can be graphed, although there are only 8 distinct colours, with the remaining being graphed in white. Finally, the Device list, contains all of the devices for which you want a graph of Metrics defined above displayed.

Once you have populated your graph set, click the create button.

To remove a metric set from the graphs, you first need to select the set you wish to remove, and then click the - button.

Double clicking on a metric set brings up the Metric Set Window, allowing you to make changes to the set.

Multi-Graph View

Image

The Multi-Graph Window displays up to four individual graphs at a time. The graphs will automatically scroll through the each device in the Metric Sets. Each graph is displayed for a set interval (configured in the graph config) before the next graph is retrieved. For example:

You have three Metric sets defined: SetA, SetB and SetC. SetA contains two devices, Dev1 and Dev2, SetB contains Dev3, Dev4 and Set3 contains Dev1, Dev2, Dev3 and Dev4. The graphs will be displayed in the following order: SetA/Dev1, SetA/Dev2, SetB/Dev3, SetB/Dev4, SetC/Dev1, SetC/Dev2, SetC/Dev3, SetC/Dev4.

Pro-active monitoring using the Multi-Graph

The Multi-Graph window is a useful tool to pro-actively monitor devices. You can set up metric sets to automatically rotate through a  series  of predefined graphs. The window displays four graphs at a time, and the display interval is user defined.

The Multi-Graph window can be opened from the File->New menu <Command + Shift + Option + G>.

Creating a new Metric Set

To create a new metric set, click on the '+' button at the bottom of the Metric Set Drawer. This opens up the metric set window. After giving this set a new name, you can drag Metrics from the Browser into the Metric list component of the window. Once all of the required metrics are added, you can then add all of the required devices, by dragging and dropping them into the lower half of the window.  When you are happy with the Metric Set, click the 'Update' button.

There is no limit to the number of metric sets you can create, the graphs will automatically rotate through each device in each metric set.

If there is a graph of interest you can use the Pause button to stop the auto-progress of the graphs to investigate, or alternatively, as with the single graph window, you can save the graph by dragging and dropping it into finder.

To modify a metric set, simply double click on the required set in the drawer and the Metric window will display again.

To configure the time interval the graphs are displayed for, or to set the reference date, or the graphed period, click the 'Configure Graph' button.

There are three options in the config window:

Display Interval
The time between graph refreshes. In seconds
Graph Period The time frame for each graph: Last 48 hours, Day, Week, Month, Year
Reference Date
The reference date for each graph.

Although the graphs automatically rotate through the sets, you may use the Play/Pause and next buttons in the toolbar to progress through the graphs at your own pace.

 Saving Metric Sets

If you have made changes to the Metric Sets, when you close the Multi-Graph window you will be asked if you would like to save the document. Clicking 'Save', will open the Save document Window. Give the document a useful name, and save it in an appropriate location.

Opening a Previously saved Metric Set

To open a saved Metric Set, click on 'Open..' (or 'Open Recent') from the File menu <Command + O>. Once you locate the required Metric Set, click open. Alternatively, you can open the file from 'FInder'.
